Laser Hair Removal and The “Ouch” Factor, Minneapolis Minnesota

By newagemedicine

If anyone has had a Laser Hair Removal treatment in the past few years, they would have to agree with me “Ouch!” Treatments were always very uncomfortable!

Recently i went through Sciton Laser training certification, and was very curious how this brand new state of the art laser has changed. With this new technology I was amazed to experience great results without the discomfort!

So how is it different than the lasers I was use to? Let me explain, but i have to start at the beginning.

Lasers target melanin pigment in the hair in an effort to destroy the hair follicle. Dark hair contains the pigment melanin, which serves as the target for energy delivered by the laser. The laser energy is absorbed by the pigmented hair shaft and is then transferred to the surrounding follicle. This causes thermal destruction to these hair follicles and disrupts their ability to regenerate, resulting in permanent hair reduction.

Not all the hairs in any one body area are the same phase of growth at the same time. The target of a hair-removing laser is the hair root (follicle), in the skins middle layer, the dermis. Hair grows from its follicle in a cycle, with rest periods in between growth phases. Most of the follicles which are in an active growth stage at the time of the treatment are stopped form producing any more hair. That means that you will need five or six treatments, perhaps more, depending on how dense and thick the hair growth is that is being targeted. Time between treatments will vary according to the body area. Example for the chine are it would be about four weeds, for the legs, about six to eight weeks.

So how is the Sciton laser different than other lasers? The other lasers are known as intense pulsed light systems. These systems are flash lamps that produce a spectrum of light energy rather than laser light. Because the light they produce has a short wavelength, their laser energy scatters more in the skin as well as mostly absorbs in the top few millimeters of the skin, above many of the hair roots, where it is needed. The results can be temporary and difficult to safely use on people with dark skin.

By contrast, the Sciton Profile ClearScan used the longest available, deeper penetrating wavelength. This wavelength reaches the deepest hair roots below the skin surface.

The long 1064 nanometer wavelength makes it possible to safely and effectively treat all skin types, even those with tanned and dark skin.

This is the part that I like the best, advance tissue cooling. The best results are obtained when cooling is applied before, during and after the laser pulse. This provides maximum epidermal protection and comfort. In other words, it feels so much better than previous laser treatments! Once you try it, you will also be amazed, and relaxed.
